SRINAGAR, June
21: Even as
all Opposition parties, except BSP and CPI(M), are
heading for a stiff resistance to the National
Conference-sponsored move on greater autonomy, Chief
Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah today demanded a national
debate on the subject and said that he would not invoke
his brute majority to pass the resolution in the state
legislature. Members of BJP, Congress, Mufti Mohammad
Sayeeds PDP as also the Awami League chairman and
counter-insurgent king Kukka Parray today spoke volumes
against the demand for restoration of pre-53 position but
the senior NC leader and member of State Autonomy
Committee (SAC), Abdur Rahim Rather, demolished their
