Exploitation of private school teachers

Sir,

Teacher plays an important role in shaping and moulding the character and behaviour of the students. It is his teaching skill, his personal influence upon the pupils, his character, his ideals, his plans for future, his dynamism and his life force that turns the base metal of the child into gold.

But unfortunately, there is a large scale exploitation of private school teachers in J&K. They are forced to work as bonded labourers. The teachers with higher degrees are paid less wages. There is also no record of wages paid, no pay scales in various schools. The school authorities fix wages according to their own interests and this results in dis-satisfaction on the part of the teachers in their job which can ultimately effect the quality of education.

For this the administration is responsible. Those who are at the helm of affairs are themselves part and parcel of this very society. They themselves are aware of this exploitation. But they fail to take any action against this exploitation.

If we want that the quality of education should improve then there is need to end the exploitation of the teachers (private). It is the responsibility of the State to regulate the conduct of private schools in the best interest of the society. State must frame laws for private schools. State should not allow unrecognised schools to function. There should be regular inspection by Inspection Teams which will inspect all the school records, quality of education, school atmosphere etc. The schools which are indulging in unfair means, action should be taken against them.

Thus it can be said that it is the high time when administration should adopt a policy. The policy should not be theoretical but practical in every sense.

Non-functional Bhaderwah telecom service

Sir,

While passing through the exchange road I noticed telecom employees sitting on dharna for their demands, but some one might ask them have they ever tried to analyze their own credibility and seriousness towards their job. Bhaderwah as we all know is militancy infested area and the people having their relatives living there are quite worried about their well being and want to stay in touch with them. People had sigh of relief when govt improved the telecom infrastructure and exchanges in Bhaderwah region. But its really sad and annoying to know that the phones in Bhaderwah region are lying dead for over 5 months now and not because of some technical snag but just because the telecom employees have refused to work. The reason local people cite for this is that some senior police officer called some employee to his residence to repair the faulty phone, he refused and which resulted in employees being thrashed by policemen.

This whole episode has put whole telecom infrastructure, improved after spending so much money, lying useless, at least for now, and has left common people suffer for no fault of theirs.

How do they explain this callousness of their fellow employees towards their job that they are paid for ?

Traffic chaos-I

Sir,

I am quite sure that the traffic Police, the management authorities of Jain High School, the concerned office of General Manager (Telecom) Rani Park office, the Organisers of Sewa Samiti Ranipark Jammu and the general public are in the full knowledge of the traffic chaos (which has crossed all limits of tolerance) occuring in the Lane between two main buildings (i.e. Jain High School and Office of the General Manager Telecom Rani Park). This lane off shoots from Kachi Chhowni (in the north) and joins Moti Bazar in the South. When there is hardly any space available for those who have to walk on foot through this lane, How the management of the above mentioned offices tolerate the Tongas, Rehras, Rehriwallas who have clogged rather choked this lane. Moreover, there are rules of scooters and cycles parked there. During office hours there is total chaos and prolonged traffic jams. In fact, no one knows (after getting into this lane) where to go and how to find a way? Then whose responsibility is to get the problem solved ? Why all the concerned authorities have closed their eyes from the fact that use of this lane has become a death trap and consumes hours together to reach the other end if by mistake some one enters it. Is really no solution available or no one so far as scratched his mind for a remedy? Earlier the solution is found better it would be for all of us.

Traffic chaos-II

Sir,

We would like to highlight the nuisance created by the matadors in Jammu City and its surrounding. The matadors are overcrowded and tape recorders are on in full sound, with the result, there is noise and nuisance in the matadors. It is noticed that the traffic police do not ask the drivers to drive the matadors at the speed fixed for them by the Department. They (traffic police) are standing mute at the matador stand, allowing the drivers to ply the matadors at the full speed without caring the public who are facing difficulties while travelling in the overcrowded matadors.

There is also risk of unexpected accidents which may take place in the matadors, because of the fact that militants' activities are being noticed in the State especially when they are bent upon to grip the Jammu province also.

In this regard, we would like to request the IGP of Traffic to take necessary measures to control the traffic in Jammu city. The traffic personnel may be directed to act in proper manner and stop the corruption/bribe which they are collecting from the Drivers of the matadors.

Yours etc...
