The man behind Miss World Yukta Mookhey MUMBAI, Jan 13: Mickey Mehta who has popularised a new concept of a perfect blend of the ancient Indian science of yoga and the Western technique of physical fitness has a horde of internationally famous clients including Miss World, Yukta Mookhey. Mehta told UNI "attitude, integrity, karma and philosophy form the foundation stones to a perfect human body and the entire personality of the man stands to grow when they are in the right proportion". Various forms of energy, he said, are already present in the human being and also in nature around us and the process of give and take of these cosmic and human energies forms the basis of the new concept of spiritual health. Mehta says that when realisation and awareness of these energies creep in a man, his conciousness level rises, due to which he increasingly exchanges these energies with nature, eventually leading to physical, mental and spiritual health of the right kind. The health fitness and spiritual guru, emphasises the need for a proper thinking mind as the first step towards perfect health. "Good health comes with good mind and good spirit and all those who claim to improve your physique by reducing fat through various techniques are bluffing", he opined saying that yoga has emphasised that Bhautik Vikas (physical fitness) comes only when the systems within your body are in perfect co-relation and co-respondence with each other, realising their own strengths, abilities and collective intelligence. He stressed that for good health of the spirit, harmonious energies present in nature have to be accepted by the body through constant process of give-n-take and that comes only when the body realises these energies and communicates with nature. "This is achieved through Sadhana (medication) and hence the first exercise i teach all my clients is meditation through deep breathing", he added. He pointed out that breathing is the sole thread which holds the entire body together and deep breathing helps better coordination of the body and mind. "This is turn connects the soul, and the trio form harmonious relation with each other which constitutes spiritual growth", he explained. Pranayam deep breathing, is the first step towards peace of mind and tranquility and when this is achieved, the foundation for the perfect body is laid. Mehta stresses on the theory of finding peace in each beautiful thing around us, which may include the rising sun, the smell of the wet grass, fresh air, chirping birds and even innocent animals. "Each person finds peace in a different phenomena and I stress working on these concepts which give them peace to make them realise their spiritual necessity", he explained adding that, "When someone finds peace in meditation through chanting, I work on this area and help him gain spiritual awareness". Once this is achieved the rest comes easy, he feels adding that each individual is then encouraged to practise his method to find peace of mind, through which a well-groomed body is eventually formed. This method teaches the student to be at tranqullity with oneself and with patience comes the art of acceptance and automatically the person starts observing things around him and absorbing cosmic energy into his system. "This makes him activate his entire system and this activism is channelised into necessary exercising, which then not not only helps in forming a healthy body but also a healthy mind", he asserted. Dynamism is thus created through this new found enlightenment and superconciousness and fitness is achieved in totality given the person a different kind of look, full with renewed aura and glow in the personality. "This is exactly what everyone wants when they talk of fitness and this is what they achieve", he said. The high level of body current which is generated through deep breathing is channelised within the body with proper angular postures, Mickey said and pointed out that yogic postures form the basis of most of the exercise and dance regimes throughout the world including ballet, kathak, gymnastics and others. "Yogic postures are derived from the movements and positions of the natural and cosmic sciences and hence they form the basis of each body postre", he said. Mehta confides that physical and spiritual health are simultaneous processes and one is incomplete without the other as far as complete healthy body is concerned. His method of working is developing the interest in medication into the minds of his clients simultaneously while teaching them physical exercises, and this slow battering acts like a drug and soon becomes an addiction for the health freaks. The man, who has been awarded as the fitness and spiritual guru by the lions club international, also made an entry into the limca book of records for teaching swimming in 24 hours. He now awaits his guinness entry. Boasting of clients from the likes of big industrialists to politicians to media persons, Mehta is the official physical fitness trainer for the Femina Miss India contestants and had a big role to play in shaping the bodies of Diana Hayden, Manpreet Brar, Bipasha Basu, Ujwala Raut and now Yukta Mookhey. He emphasises on the yogic theories of nirvana and moksha and categorises his clients usually into seekers of one of the two. "Yukta however, is a Sadhak (medidator)", he said. Mickey Mehta now has a dream and a target to popularise the theory of vedic and cosmic fitness regimes throughout the world and hopes that the world understands their importance for their own healthy living. That will take time and persuasion but at present he suggests that everyone turn towards one form of meditation for mental peace to lay the foundation for a healthy and wealthy body. (UNI) Jaya discharged from TANSI land deal cases CHENNAI, Jan 13: Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha was today discharged by the Madras High Court from the TANSI land deal case. Justice S Thangaraj allowed a revision petition from her, challenging a special judges order framing charges against her and others in this case. The judge set aside the order of Special Judge-III, P Anbazhagan, framing charges against Jayalalitha and five others in connection with the purchase of land belonging to the Tamil Nadu Small Industries Corporation (TANSI) in 1992. Justice Thangaraj observed that it was clear that no prima facie case existed to frame charges against her in the TANSI case. The two transactions pertained to land and buildings belonging to two subsidiaries of TANSI and bought by Jaya Publications and Sasi Enterprises, both firms in which Jayalalitha and Sasikala, the other accused, were partners. In yet another order, the High Court also upheld another Special Judges order discharging her from the coal import case. Special Judge-II V Radhakrishnan had a few months ago discharged Jayalalitha and late AIADMK leader V R Nedunchezhiyan for their role in clearing the import of coal by the State Electricity Board in 1993. In this case, the High Court was dismissing a revision petition filed by the Crime Branch-CID which was aggrieved by the trial court order. The two firms had purchased the state-owned property through the bidding route for about Rs three crore each. Both were alleged to be undervalued transactions, involving consequent evasion of stamp duty and registration charges. The trial court framed charges against Jayalalitha, Sasikala, the then Small Industries Minister Mohammed Asif, TANSI Managing Director T R Srinivasan, the Chief Ministers Secretary, R Karpoorasundarapandian, and Special Deputy Collector (Stamps) S Nagarajan. Todays High Court order pertains only to Jayalalitha. The prosecution contended that the transactions attracted Sec.169 of IPC which bars government servants from buying or bidding for property that they are legally not entitled to. The CB-CID, which investigated a private complaint from Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy as well as an official complaint from the State Government, filed the chargesheet in December 1996 under Sec 169 and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. In the coal import case, the trial court discharged Jayalalitha as there was no evidence to show that she was aware of the PWD Secretarys objections to the technical aspects of the tender norms which he felt were designed to favour an indonesian supplier. The import deal for two million tonnes of coal was cancelled after the first consignment arrived in 1993 in the wake of a controversy over its quality. (PTI) |
Sahas equation key to Agni launch, nuke weapon testing CALCUTTA, Jan 13: The classical Ionisation equation of Dr Meghnad Saha was a key factor in Indias prestigious missile and nuclear programmes, leading scientists here said paying tribute to the work of the illustrious physicist. We drew largely from the Saha equation while framing the trajectory of Agni in 1986, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Union Government Dr A P J Abdul Kalam said at the golden jubilee celebration of the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics last Tuesday. Kalam said that Sahas pioneering nuclear physics research that lead to the equation found use in the calculation of the silence phase of the beginning and end of Agnis trajectory. The re-entry phase of the missile is 15 times that of the speed of sound and at a particular period during the launch when the experiment temperature hovered around 3000-4000 degree celcius, no data was coming out ... That is when we fell back on the Saha equation, he explained. Reminiscing his dependence on Sahas work, the Department of Atomic Energy Chairman Dr R Chidambaram said the equation, primarily applicable for gaseous state ionisation experiments, had worked wonders during the development of Indias nuclear weapons. Chidambaram said the path-breaking equation, which has stood steady in substance through the years, did not appear applicable to the ionisation experiments in the development of nuclear detonators at first sight. But after slight modifications to suit our needs, it worked perfectly. By far, it is the best model that one can think of to be used in the ionisation experiments of nuclear reactions, he observed. Sinp Director Bikash Sinha said Sahas theoretical work on the shell model of the nucleus, nuclear matter calculations, formulation of the theory of direct nuclear reactions, studies of chemical shifts and hyperfine interactions have been recognised all over the world. The indigeous construction in the fifties of a cyclotron, an electron microscope, a nuclear magnetic resonance system, a mass spectrometer and a beta spectrometer were witness to his policy of independent growth and phenomenon, he pointed out. Self reliance is very vital in days of technology denial, he said. Kalam said that at a time when home-grown intruments were fast vanishing from scientific circles, it was heartening that sinp, named after Saha, had kept alive the tradition with an indigenous spectrometer, neutron generator and electron microscope. Sayeed in favour of reservation for women NEW DELHI, Jan 13: Deputy Speaker of Lok Sabha P M Sayeed today regretted that constitutional objectives vis-a-vis women rights were yet to be achieved and favoured granting of one-third reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. The chasm between objectives of our constitution and present realities so far as womens rights are concerned has not disappeared, Sayeed said inaugurating an international conference on human rights challenges for women in 21st century. He said such a scenario prevailed notwithstanding the fact that issues of equality and integration of women into the mainstream of political and social life had been On the national agenda since independence. Sayeed said while respect for human rights was the cornerstone of Indian constitution where equal rights for women is a principal feature, like elsewhere in the world women continued to be politically deprived. In this connection he said constitutional amendments stipulating compulsory and minimum one-third reservation for women in elected seats and in posts of chairperson of local bodies was a landmark attempt to make womens political participation a reality. Referring to the issue of reservation for women in Lok Sabha and State Legislatures, he said the newly introduced bill when enacted would go a long way in ensuring more representation of women. Relatives of former AIADMK MLA convicted CHENNAI, Jan 13: A special judge trying cases of corruption during the previous AIADMK regime, today convicted the brother and sister-in-law of former AIADMK MLA G Mallika and sentenced them to undergo seven years and one year Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) respectively in the Rs 2.35 crore disproportionate wealth case. While awarding the sentence, Special Judge-I Mr S Sambandam, found them guilty of committing offence under Section 109 (abetment) of the IPC, and also imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Mallikas brother G Selvaraj and Rs 1,000 to his wife Manimegalai. The judge, however, suspended by one month, the implementation of the sentence awarded to Manimegalai, to enable her to file an appeal in a higher court. Selvaraj will be taken to the prison later today. The judge had yesterday convicted Mallika in the same case and sentenced her to undergo seven years RI and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on her, in default, to undergo six months RI. Soon after the judgment Mallika was arrested and taken to central prison. Since Selvaraj and Manimegalai were not present in the court yesterday the judge had split the case. The prosecution case was that during her tenure as MLA, representing Bhuvanagiri constituency between 1991-96, Mallika had amassed wealth to the tune of Rs 2.35 crore in her name and in the names of her brother and sister-in-law which was disproportionate to her known sources of income. The judge said the prosecution had proved the case beyond any doubt. (UNI) |
