War prisoners Sir, It is the greatest irony of fate for all such Indian youth who choose their career as soldiers and defend the mother land with all their might. They stay far far away from their sweet homes, their families, their small children, spend days of life in old situations. In some unfortunate cases these youth sacrifice their lives while defending the country. As a matter of fact if we live in our homes comfortably and enjoy all the pleasures of life, it are these youths in the army, in the navy and the Air Force who guard the frontiers of the country. Keeping all this factual position in view should we not be extremely grateful to them. We country-men should also thank the parents of the youth who have given such brave children to the nation to serve it both during peace time and in odd situations. This being the reality, should not the Government feel obliged to watch the interests of these soldiers (officers and ORs) who either get martyred or are taken as prisoners of war. If I am somebody to comment over the latter category of our soldiers I shall say that it is better to die while defending the country rather than fall in the hands of the enemy, become a prisoner of war and die daily by inches in the enemy's prison. Not only that keep parents, spouses and children weeping as long as they are alive. It is therefore absolutely correct that since the children of the politicians and other big wigs do not opt for soldiery, nobody cares for those soldiers who suffer untold miseries in enemy's jails. If the politicians and the Government they form, behave irresponsibly, there is every apprehension of the youth refraining from choosing soldiery as their profession. During the two wars of 1965 and 1971 many of our soldiers were captured by Pakistan and they continue getting purified in Pakistani jails. Nobody cares for them. Let me tell these politicians sitting in cosy Ministerial chairs that unless they take all these poor lot as their children or relatives as will be doing injustice to our own people. All those soldiers of Pakistan who are with us should be exchanged with those of our own men in Pakistan jails. Yours etc..... |
