Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari VajpayeeNEW DELHI, Dec 20: The Government of India’s unilateral cease-fire in Jammu and Kashmir will continue for another month, beyond December 28. This was announced by the Prime Minister, Mr Atal Behari Vajpayee, in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, soon after question hour. The 10-paragraph statement read out by the Prime Minister emphasised that there would be no initiation of combat operations in J&K for one more month after the coming Id-ul-Fitr. Mr Vajpayee also announced that the Government would review the situation in the State of Jammu and Kashmir after Republic Day 2001. .........more


Militants possess anti-aircraft missiles

Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr Vidyasagar RaoNEW DELHI, Dec 20: The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr Vidyasagar Rao, informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that uncorroborated inputs indicate that militants operating in Jammu and Kashmir are in the possession of anti-aircraft missiles. The possibility of attacks on helicopters and aircraft of Indian security forces by the militants cannot be ruled out, Mr Vidyasagar Rao said in reply to a question by Mr K Kalavenkata Rao, Mr Yadlapati Venkat Rao and Mr Solipeta Rama Chandra Reddy..............more
