Parliamentary pandemonium Sir, The uproar about the PM's remarks over the national concern for Mandir construction is nothing extraordinary bUT the very obvious. If only the PM has said that the reconstruction of the demolished mosque structure was a national concern, there would have been an overwhelming applause from the opposition. Both are national concerns and therefore breast-beating over Mandir is uncalled for and inexplicable. Since sentiments of both the communities are involved, any solution has to be with mutual consent. The uproar, therefore, is unjustified and has lost the country valuable time. As a disciplinary measure the Speaker may like to disallow pay and allowances and other amenities to the concerned for absence from incumbent parliamentary duties to serve as a deterrent against future misconduct by Parliamentarians who are public servants. Breaking the gender barrier Sir, This has reference to the article "Is Co-education convenient for girls?" written by Shakeel Ahmed Raina (DE dated December 8, 2000) in which he had said that the women should be educated to make them good individuals which is actually the need of the society, but also writes that the barriers must be there in imparting education to boys and girls. When on one side, the society is aiming for the gender equality, how could we think of making the barriers between the two sexes. Here I have discussed the different aspects given by the writer. Firstly, there is no such thing that a girl student cannot learn freely in a mixed class of boys and girls. It must be known to the writer that the MBBS students always study in co-educational colleges and, there they study about every single part of the human body. From there, the boys and the girls come out as successful doctors. The important point here is that it depends on the mentality of an individual and then on the atmosphere where they grow up. Secondly, the girls are not logging behind boys in any respect, be it games or debates etc. The girls are actively taking part in games and extra-curriculum activities and are dedicated to these activities except studies. We usually come across the names of the girls of different schools and colleges bringing laurels to the State. Then there are many girls who possess the leadership qualities are not afraid to the dominance of male counterparts. It again depends upon the capability of an individual to take the society ahead and not the gender. It must no be forgotten that being a lady our former Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi took our country to the 21st century world. After studying in separate institutions, it would become difficult for boys and girls to adjust themselves at higher levels such as in universities. There would be shyness and hesitation among them. To provide basic education, co-educational institutes are the best means for boys and girls to express their views and feelings. If, we really want to go ahead in the world, the co-education system should be continued but measures should be taken to improve the system where well educated and experienced teachers should be employed. The maximum percentage of educational Institutions in our country is that of co-educational Institutions. Moreover, the Government is planning to give quality education to the students. For instances, the schools outside J&K State are planning to give sex education to the students so that, in future, they could save themselves from deadly diseases. The views expressed by the author do not stand the trial of the present times. He should view the global trends first, and present his view point accordingly. Yours etc... |
