Establish Police Post at Moungri

Sir,

After taking over the rains of Jammu and Kashmir Police Force by Mr. A K Suri (IPS) as Director General, various healthy measures to improve the Police's functioning in the State are being taken up. In this connection an encouraging step to establish the public complaint boxes at certain places, even at districts level, has already been ordered. The Police officers have also been asked to have a close interaction with the common masses and attend to their grievances.

The upgradation of four police posts viz. Latti, Kud, Rehmbal and Panchari in district Udhampur as Police Stations is another welcome decision. Mr. Satvir Gupta SSP Udhampur also deserves special mention as he took initiative and keen interest in the upgradation matter. Such a step, infact, was the need of the hour. Keeping in view the changing scenario more such measures and establishment of new police posts are desperately needed in the district and State as well.

Let me here bring in the kind notice of concerned high Police Officials the long pending demand of village Moungri and adjoining areas' people for opening of a Police post in this village. The people since long are highlighting the demand at various quarters. I want to remind Mr. Gupta the SSP also that in 1999 the then District Development Commissioner Udhampur Mr. S M Iqbal after visiting the said areas had also personally requested him and stressed upon the need of a Police post in Moungri. And, the worthy Police Officer had assured for the same.

But the people are still waiting for just orders.

The existing Police Station Panchari is situated more than 50 kms away from Moungri and its surrounding villages. The people have to trek and travel long distances to reach Panchari. More especially, during bad weathers i.e. winters- monsoon, when generally this area remains cut off due to snow and rains the people face much hardships.

Even Mr. A K Suri, the DGP himself visited the area upto Lord Shiv-Parvati Caves Shrine Moungri in mid-May 2000 when he was the Director General J&K Youth services and sports Department and attended the famous Lord Shiv-Parvati annual Mela celebrations. He personally viewed the geographical terrain and the problems being faced the people of this area.

Moreover, due to increasing number of Lord -Shiv-Parvati Caves Shrine visitors, Melas and Yatras the said post becomes more important.

We hope for a favourable decision by the concerned high ups in this regard very soon.

Yours etc...

Hold elections

Sir,

This has reference to the news items "Centre has realised that Farooq is a burden: Mufti" which appeared in DE on December 13, 2000.

If we take stock of the State's development right from 1996, the year when the present popular Government was formed, it reveals that Mr. Sayeed Mohd Mufti former Union Home Minister and President of the J&K Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has correctly said that the present Government of NC under the leadership of Dr. Farooq Abdullah stands failed on all fronts. At the time of election, it was tremendously supported by the people of J&K State as well as by the Central Government, and the result was that the NC got an overwhelming majority. What was the background of its winning the election with a majority, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has not realised so far ? The fact remains that the people of the State were tired of militancy and as such they wanted to live in peace and this was great reasons to vote the NC party to power. But now people feel that it was their mere presumption to have peace in the state. The situation has gone bad to worse with the result the atrocities on common people have increased instead of getting less.

Mr. Mufti is also correct to say that ruling elites resorted to looting public exchequer. In this regard, I may point out that this Government is only spending public money on the welfare of political leaders instead of public, and this is the reason for financial crunch in our state. It would be very much correct to say that the leaders have no right to live a luxurious life. When the public is facing great hardships. The best way to overcome the situation is to hold free and fair elections in the State which are due next year.

Yours etc...
