‘Qualitative improvement’ on border after ceasefire

S PadmanabhanDEVLALI (MAHARASHTRA), Dec 8: There is a ‘qualitative improvement’ in the situation across the border following declaration of unilateral ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir, Army Chief, General S Padmanabhan today said.Guns are silent after a long time on the border and there is minimal firing now’, Padmanabhan, who attended the tenth reunion of the regiment of artillery here, told reporters. Earlier, tens and thousands rounds were fired in the Valley but now it has been considerably reduced following the month-long Ramzan initiative of the Centre, the Army chief said. Singh told reporters that Vajpayee made the remarks as part of "diversionary tactics" to escape opposition attack on Government’s economic policies particularly on the agriculture front as a number of farmers were facing starvation and had even committed suicide.
