Nation cares for martyrs

Indian nation is not only grateful to her martyrs but also cares for the bereaved families. The Government already has rules of what kind and quantum of support is to be given to the martyrs who sacrifice their lives in the service of the country. Besides, the prescribed norms applicable in their cases, the concerned home states of the martyred jawans also voluntarily sanctions ex-gratia relief for the bereaved families besides providing education and health of their wards. They are not obliging the bereaved families.
In this back ground, encouraging news has come that Actor Vivek Oberoi has donated 25 flats to the families of CRPF jawans killed in the line of duty. These flats are located in developed areas in Maharashtra. A senior Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officer said that while four flats have already been allotted to the families of slain jawans, including three killed in a Naxal attack in Sukma, Chhattisgarh on March 11, the remaining 21 will be handed over to the paramilitary force soon. Vivek Oberoi’s generous sentiment has been repeated by two more celebrities of India and the nation has expressed its appreciation for their nationalistic act.  Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar, had recently donated Rs 9 lakh each to the families of the 12 CRPF personnel killed in the March 11 Naxal ambush in Chhattisgarh. Olympic bronze medalist badminton player Saina Nehwal too had donated Rs 50,000 each to the 12 families. This is how our nation treats the families of the martyred soldiers with respect and dignity. We are hopeful that the precedence set forth by these celebrities will be emulated by more and more people in India who have the capacity to make frugal donations to a cause of nation’s pride.
