Maternity Hospital at Jammu

Probably one or two years or even more may be the length of wait and wait in anxiety, which the people in Jammu shall have to go in for as regards   the lone and much desired Maternity Hospital at Gandhi Nagar Jammu to become operational. By the set standards of adhering to time lines by the State Government, five years gone, perhaps, mean nothing in the subject matter. Anyway, what cannot be cured has to be endured but now, not for any more time.
This 200 bedded Maternity Hospital was thought of and perceived by the Coalition Government of the State prior to the one just last month falling apart, to address the overcrowding and other discomforts faced by the patients as well as their attendants due to the Maternity Hospital being housed in the main building of SMGS Hospital Jammu.
The project of the new separate Maternity Hospital having been funded by the Union Government was to have been completed in all respects by 2014-15 but due to lack of follow up exercise from the concerned authorities of the State Health Department, the project missed its fixed timeline of 2014, thereafter several ones too, met the same fate. The basic infrastructure is still not ready in this proposed hospital building like the mandatory ramp for shifting patients to wards in case of failure of lift system and it is reported that the designers either forgot this aspect or they relied upon the “infallibility and invincibility” of lift system.  In any case, the long wait must end soon for the people of Jammu and its adjoining districts to see this hospital functioning.
